Final Major Project- 2013 Pre-Limbs

This pre-limb is created using inks and a old record. I firstly mixed different inks together i miked white and blue to get the blue colour, i left the red in its natural ink state and mixed yellow and blue together to get this green.I then applied the inks with ink roller and rolled it onto the old record, then i added some marks onto the record with the end of a paint brush once i had put the record through the press and it had printed this is what i got. I think this record is successful with the mark making im bot to sure on the colours so in my other prints i will simplify the prints.

This simple composition was created with graphite and cartridge paper  i drew a circle on the paper first then went around college placing the paper in different areas that had different textures and then collected. This composition was collected from a wall in college this is show with the brick work lines showing what sort of texture it has. i did this method with 9 other composition.

This composition is a rough composition with the circle not being perfect. I was mainly experimenting with what effect plaster what textures it has and the difference form wet to dry. I found that different plasters has different feelings.

This is made with hand prints and varied colours which i then kept layering my hand prints which then added a good effect with the different colours coming through. you can pick the colours out of the composition which i feel is what makes it interesting.

This composition was created with my feet i did this as i wanted to work with different ways of creating print after i had created my research on fruit prints. I used many different colours and walked round in a circle starting from the outside and making my way into the middle. The main problem with this composition was reapplying the paint on my feet once the paint had been used.

This pre-limb is made with cardboard, plaster, white and black paint and inks i first plastered the background and then painted over with grey paint i then painted the circle white and marked the circle with the end of a paint brush, next i added ink to the center and the edges and blew it so it spreads. Im not really keen on this composition as the inks didnt really spread the way i wanted and as i was sat outside in the sun creating this the paint kept drying to quick and was hard to mix and spread.

This pre-limbs is the main inspiration for my final outcomes  with the  applying the paints and the plaster with the wallpaper scrapper and layering the paints on top of each other. with the small compositions i experimented with layering in different ways and applying paint in different ways.

This composition is created with willow charcoal and chalk this is just a quick composition made with charcoal going round in repetitive circles starting big and then moving all the way down to the middle then using chalk going round in circles turning the black circles into varied sized circles. This turned out to be a strong composition and made me think having different media circles would look good.

This composition is a simple one that i had created with just watered down yellow paint and orange paint i then poured it onto some card and then left to dry i then drew a circle onto the card and ripped it out and this is what it looked like.
I used willow charcoal with this composition and went round in a circle starting from the outside gradually making my way into the center i also added a bit of compressed charcoal onto this composition to add a contrast between the different black tones.
This is another simple plaster composition experimenting with a different way of creating a circle with plaster.
Again i was experimenting with a different ways of creating a circle with plaster. This could be improved by drawing the circle on first to create perfect circles.
With this pre-limb i wanted to experiment with mixing paint and plaster together and with the us of print. So i mixed varied colours with plaster which created pastel colours i then got different sized cups and printed the cups on paper with plaster. This turned out to be a good composition which i could work into more if i wanted to.
This composition is one of my favorite prints as it fits well with my final composition and i like the simplicity in it but how all the markings come through. I created this with mixing white and blue inks and then applying with a roller i added turps in areas on the record and then printed it on some newsprint. To get a strong print i placed it through a press between card to make all the markings strong.
with this composition i kept it simple but changed the paper to tissue paper to see the effect it has. This composition didn't turn out very well in my opinion as the ink was to heavy for the tissue paper and wouldn't work well with the final compositions as it would be hard to stick the print down and would float and sag everywhere.
i created this composition with white paint and willow charcoal i first created circles with the charcoal and then applied white paint with a paint brush and went in between the charcoal and this is how it turned out. This composition turned out feel but i find it to be to simple which i find boring.
This is created with coloured plaster i mixed browns and yellow paints with plaster to try and create natural colours i then added the plaster in circles and added markings in the plaster using my fingers. This composition would be better if i had drawn the circles on first so they fitted on the page because i just applied the plaster free hand and made the large circle to big which then didn't fit on the paper.
This again is experimenting with adding paint to plaster this made the paint more of a pastel colour i experimented with  splatting the plaster onto the page from a height to see what effect this would have this turned out well with creating a expressive effect.
This statred as the imprint of the record as i used this piece of cardboard in the press  i then went over the cardboard with black ink and this clearly showed the imprint of the record this was purely seeing what this effect would look like i wont be using this in my finals but may look into this more in the future.
This Pre-limb is created with water, ink and bleach i added the water in circle shapes and then added the ink into the water next i added the bleach which worked well to create different tones in the compositions.
This composition was created in the press with the record and the tissue paper  composition the imprint from the record  marked the cardboard and then the ink from the tissue paper came through onto the card. Once it had also gone through the press the lines in the cardboard came through so i went over the cardboard with black ink with a roller which then showed all the markings and the imprints.
This again was created with the record i simplified from the three colours down to two colours. so i pick blue and red as i think the work well together. This composition had the right amount of ink on it which showed all the markings on the edge and center of the record. I still think having just one colour works better and if the red was more of a natural colour i think this composition could be stronger.
This was created with beach stones placed in a circle in the grass. I think this composition didn't turn out very well as you cant see the stones clearer. To improve this composition i think maybe if i panted the stones it would make the stones more noticeable.
From this angle you can see that the white stones show better in the grass so maybe if i used more stones that are white.  I was also thinking that maybe photo shopping the stones to brighter colours would look good but would bring away from the natural theme.
